Amazing Hazel's Gourmet Sloppy Joe’s with pickled red cabbage, fried jalapeños, and cheddar cheese!
Ingredients:
Quick pickled red cabbage:
1 cup sliced red cabbage
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup rice wine vinegar (or apple cider vinegar or white vinegar)
optional: add spices like black peppercorn
Fried jalapeños:
3 fresh jalapeno peppers sliced into rings
½ cup all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon paprika
salt and pepper to taste
2 large eggs
4 ounces light beer
2 to 3 cups peanut or vegetable oil
Sloppy Joe’s:
1 jar of Amazing Hazel's Gourmet Sloppy Joe Sauce
1 lb hamburger meat
1 package of hamburger buns
Cheddar cheese slices
Instructions:
1. Prepare the pickled cabbage. Set 2-3 cups of water to boil in a kettle or a sauce pan. In a container with a lid, like a mason jar, add vinegar, sugar, salt & any spices if you choose. Stir to combine.
2. Place the sliced cabbage in a colander. Once the water is boiling, pour slowly over the cabbage until all the water is gone. This can be done over the sink or over a large bowl.
3. Transfer the red cabbage to the container with the vinegar mixture. Let sit for 30 minutes before using. Flavor will develop & the harshness of the vinegar will mellow the longer it sits. Store covered in the refrigerator.
4. Prepare the fried jalapeños. Heat the oil in a large pan to medium heat. Do not let it boil.
5. In a large mixing bowl, add flour, garlic, paprika & salt & pepper. Mix well.
6. Add the eggs & beat into a batter. Stir in the beer.
7. In batches, coat the sliced jalapeno peppers in the batter.
8. Fry the battered peppers about 5-6 minutes each, turning if needed, until golden. Drain on paper towels until ready to serve.
9. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, about 5 minutes; drain off liquids.
10. Add the jar of Amazing Hazel's gourmet sloppy Joe sauce & heat through, about 3 minutes.
11. Toast buns to your liking.
12. Assemble your sloppy Joe’s & enjoy!
